Nervi's Gattinara 2002 is a fine Italian wine from Northern Piedmont, it is a refined and elegant Italian red produced with 100% Nebbiolo grapes. A full-bodied and balanced Piedmontese wine, tasty and moderately tannic. From the 2015 vintage the label bears the name of Conterno, after the acquisition of the winery.

Gattinara Nervi 2002

Gattinara Nervi is one of the finest Italian wines from a lesser-known area, that of Gattinara in northern Piedmont, where Nebbiolo distinguishes itself from that of the Langhe for its freshness and verticality, despite maintaining a high level of quality with nothing to envy to its more famous cousins Barolo and Barbaresco. It was born in the historic Nervi winery, the oldest in the area, founded by Luigi Nervi in 1906, just below Monte Rosa.

Gattinara by Nervi comes from vineyards of volcanic porphyry, very rich in minerals, where we find clay and fine sands, between 290 and 425 meters above sea level. The cru Molsino, Valferana, Garavoglia and Casacce give the Nebbiolo grapes, here called Spanna, which allow to create this wine rich in minerals.

Gattinara Nervi is a clean and balanced wine, it is garnet red in colour and has an intense and complex bouquet with hints of underbrush, blueberries, ripe fruit and spices. In the mouth it is full-bodied, with an evolved tannic texture and a nice minerality. A truly long-lived wine capable of improving year after year.

The historical Nervi winery, established in Gattinara in 1906, is a wine reference point in northern Piedmont. Its wines are very characteristic and clearly express the terroir of origin, rich in clay and volcanic porphyry. Those of Nervi's range are in fact austere, deep and very mineral wines.
