Etna Bianco Superiore "Pietramarina" 2016 Benanti
Pietramarina is one of the best Italian white wines produced along the slopes of the volcano by the Sicilian winery Benanti, an Italian wine pearl that is not afraid of comparison with the great international whites. It is made from Carricante grapes, the historic indigenous Sicilian vine, grown in the Rinazzo district, in the Milo area, the most suitable of the entire Etna area.
The vines that give life to the Etna Bianco Superiore "Pietramarina" are grown on volcanic, sandy and mineral soils. They are 90 years old and cultivated as small trees at 800 metres above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand and the whole bunches are softly pressed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in steel tanks and the wine is matured in steel for 24 months, before a further 12 months in the bottle.
The Pietramarina appears in the glass of a beautiful bright straw yellow colour, limpid and crystalline, with a complex and intense bouquet of elegant and refined aromas, fruity hints of citrus fruits mingle with vegetal notes of thyme, sage, hay, broom and mimosa with a noble background of flint. In the mouth, it is a taut and decisive wine with a nice acidic verve and a savoury and fresh finish that never seems to end.
