Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 Georges Roumier
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 is the only white wine produced by Domaine Georges Roumier, a rare pearl of Burgundy. The 100% Chardonnay grapes come from the Grand Cru vineyard of the same name that the winery has owned since 1968, with the first production taking place in 1974 at the hands of Jean Marie Roumier.
Vinification follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture with careful hand-sorting, spontaneous fermentation using only indigenous yeasts and ageing in wooden barrels for 2 to 5 years, followed by a period of settling in steel for 5 months before bottling.
Like all Domaine Georges Roumier wines, this fine white wine also enjoys a forthright personality and expresses the terroir of its provenance in an authentic and sincere manner. In its youth, it enjoys a rich and pleasant fruitiness that in time will be enriched with tertiary hints, given the wine's incredible predisposition for ageing.
The Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2019 delights the eyes with a straw yellow colour of intense luminosity. The tasting continues through an intense and complex nose that opens with hints of apricot and other yellow fruit, linden blossom, notes of baked bread and brioche. The sip is well-balanced, with the typical fatness associated with this Grand Cru offset by a lovely, lively freshness in a long finish of citrus and fruit.
Lovers of white Burgundy wines should not miss this unique, rare and sought-after bottle.
