Chassagne-Montrachet “La Goujonne” Vieilles Vignes 2022 Hubert Lamy
The Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne Vieilles Vignes 2022 by Hubert Lamy is a compelling expression of Pinot Noir from the Côte de Beaune, showcasing the often-overlooked finesse of red wines from Chassagne-Montrachet. The wine comes from a 1.06-hectare parcel, farmed using sustainable and organic practices, rooted in deep clay soils with an east/southeast-facing exposure, ideal for balanced ripening.
The vines, planted in 1950, naturally deliver concentration, depth, and aromatic complexity. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by meticulous sorting. Vinification includes a significant proportion of whole clusters (50–100%), spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and a maceration period of approximately two weeks, with gentle pump-overs and punch-downs. Aging takes place over around 24 months on the lees in barrels, followed by an additional 6 months in tank, with minimal intervention and sulfur added only during aging when necessary.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright ruby-red color. The bouquet is refined and complex, revealing sour cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, layered with fine spices such as black pepper, clove, and licorice, along with subtle oak nuances. On the palate, the attack is precise and focused, enlivened by a fresh mid-palate tension that carries through to the finish. Silky tannins provide a harmonious structure, while fruit remains the dominant and joyful expression.
A deep, delicate, and age-worthy Pinot Noir, capable of evolving gracefully over time, perfectly suited to roasted poultry, white meats, mushrooms, or classic Burgundian cuisine.
