PHILIPPONNAT

Philipponnat Grandi BottigliePhilipponnat, tra i migliori Champagne al mondo

Philipponnat is one of the most important and historic Champagne Maisons, founded in 1522 in Mareuil-sur-Ay, right in the heart of the region and at the meeting point of the main Champagne areas: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Cote des Blancs. Suppliers to the King of France, Louis XIV, it has been able to maintain an international leading role over the centuries, passing on its style and savoir faire from generation to generation. The company owns 20 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vines distributed in Mareuil, Ay, Mutigny and Avenay, all facing south.

Philipponat's wine heritage is invaluable, and the pearl of the Maison is the Clos des Goisses, which it has owned for nearly 100 years: 5.5 hectares of south-facing vineyards on chalky soil, where conditions are so favourable as to allow production even in less favourable years. The term "goisses" means "very difficult to work", because the vineyard is located on a steep 45° hill that does not allow the use of machinery, in fact the vines are worked exclusively by hand as in ancient times.

Today, Charles Philipponnat is at the helm of the company, carrying on the work of his family with talent and passion in order to maintain the supremacy of the maison. This work includes careful and scrupulous vineyard management to preserve the terroir and obtain the highest quality of grapes, together with a large collection of reserve wines aged in wood using the solera method. The range of Champagne Philipponnat are recognised and acclaimed all over the world among the best interpreters of the typology.
