Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti 2016 Roagna
The Barolo Pira Vecchie Viti 2016 is Roagna’s most profound and age-worthy selection from the historic Pira cru in Serralunga d’Alba. Sourced exclusively from the oldest vines in the estate’s vineyard — planted over 70 years ago, it reflects the depth and power of this exceptional site.
The soils are limestone and clay-rich, with abundant white marl, giving the wine both structure and finesse. True to Roagna’s style, the vinification includes native yeast fermentation, extended skin maceration (up to 100 days), and aging in large neutral casks for over 5 years. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining.
The 2016 vintage, among the finest in recent decades, imbues this wine with exceptional clarity, structure, and depth. Aromas unfold in layers: dried rose, black cherry, sweet tobacco, incense, licorice and crushed stone. On the palate, it is firm and sculpted, with precise acidity, powerful tannins, and a long, mineral finish that unfolds slowly and silently.
A Barolo for the patient and the passionate, this is a meditative, monumental wine — one that honors its old vines and terroir with grace and gravitas.
