Description

Barolo 2013 Damiano Barale

Barolo 2013 by Damiano Barale is a faithful and traditional expression of Nebbiolo from the Langhe, crafted through meticulous vineyard selection and careful cellar work. The grapes are harvested by hand in October from a mix of young and historic vineyards, ensuring optimal ripeness and perfect fruit integrity. Once in the cellar, each crate undergoes an additional quality check before destemming and gentle crushing.

Fermentation follows the classic Barolo method: the must ferments in stainless steel tanks with daily pump-overs at a controlled temperature between 25 and 28°C for about 25 days, achieving balanced yet ample extraction. After racking, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in heated rooms to enhance smoothness and stability. A clarifying racking is followed by 24 months of ageing in tonneaux, which provide structure and complexity without overshadowing Nebbiolo’s intrinsic elegance. Bottle ageing lasts a further 12 months. As the wine is not subjected to forced stabilisation, a natural sediment may form; decanting is recommended.

In the glass, the Barolo displays a garnet colour with orange highlights, a hallmark of traditionally crafted Nebbiolo. The nose is rich and harmonious, offering notes of rose, liquorice and layered spices. On the palate it is full-bodied and assertive, driven by significant yet well-balanced tannins, supported by freshness and a long, persistent finish. A Barolo with excellent ageing potential, ideal for those seeking depth, authenticity and a truly classic style.
