The Bairrada "Gilda" of the Tiago Teles winery is a delicate, eclectic and versatile red wine produced in São Mateus, a Portuguese municipality overlooking the Atlantic Ocean halfway between Lisbon and Porto. This label is obtained from a blend of Merlot, Castelão and Tinta Barroca grapes from vines, with vines about 25 years old, bred using the espalier method with short Guyot pruning on clay-limestone soils characterized by the presence of a good white clay component. The winery is a family-run business run by Tiago Teles, a great wine lover, who in 2012, after studying his wine studies, decides to buy several vineyards in the Bairrada region with his father and to lead them by minimizing treatments in the vineyard and preserving the biodiversity of the territory.
The "Gilda" Bairrada by Tiago Teles is produced with carefully selected grapes harvested by hand at the time of their perfect ripeness. The grapes are then de-stemmed and gently crushed in the cellar to carry out the alcoholic fermentation in a spontaneous manner, using exclusively the indigenous yeasts, in Lagar, typical cement vats historically used to crush the grapes from which the famous wine is made with the feet "Porto" liqueur, with a maceration on the skins for a few weeks. Subsequently the wine is drawn off by pressing the skins, after which the wine is left to age for a few months in 300 liter oak barriques before proceeding with bottling, without filtration or clarification, and when it is put on the market.
The Bairrada "Gilda" has a bright ruby red color. On the nose intense aromas of red fruit and wild berries appear, including cherry, blackberry and raspberry, floral notes of dried flowers and vegetal memories, spicy hints of pepper and slight hints of fresh minerals. In the mouth it is smooth, juicy, light and easy to drink, characterized by an inebriating freshness marked by a pleasant flavor that lengthens the persistence in the mouth. This from the Tiago Teles winery is an expressive and typical red, with fragrant, elegant and fruity aromas, made as it once was according to traditional methods.
