Gevrey - Chambertin 2014 Sylvie Esmonin
Gevrey - Chambertin 2014 is a natural Burgundy wine from Sylivie Esmonin's company. The property comprises 5 hectares in the Gevrey - Chambertin, with a beautiful extension of the Premier Cru Clos St-Jacques as the "backyard" family house, and the newly added vineyards in Volnay Santenots and Côte - de - Nuits - Village. The average age of the vines is high, most of which were planted by Sylvie's grandfather, and some by her father. The cellar is very large, with a beautiful stone cellar below. All the production steps are carried out with great care: the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented in open wooden vats, then placed in barrels for secondary fermentation and aging. The barrels are of various ages to accommodate the different cuvées. This wine is made from grapes from vineyards 45-55 years old, each parcel of 4 hectares each. 30% of the fermentation takes place with whole berries, and aging in wood of which 20% new wood. Ruby in color, the nose has strong hints of oak, vanilla, cedar, and some smoky notes of coffee and tobacco. Then red fruits and an earthy scent. In the mouth the sip is pervaded by a great softness and a long finish of red fruits and minerals. A very interested wine, good to drink now, perfect if stored for a few years in the cellar.
